Zemkala - Art in Tanzania

Zemkala - Roots of African Music
The Zemkala band was founded in May 2002 by artists from different music groups looking for "Development" and that is the Kiswahili meaning for the word "Zemkala".

The band has six boys singing and playing Jembe drum, Ngoma (African drum set), western drums, bass, guitar and Marimba. The two girls are singing and dancing

The Zemkala music is Ngwasala style being a mixture of various traditional rhythms, sounds and dancing.

The band won the Music Cross Roads competition in Dar es Salaam in January 2004. Since that they have been performing in various festivals in Tanzania, Africa and Europe.

The Zemkala show is based on hectic stage performance and individual playmanship. The full show lasts three hours. The group is at its best at hotel, festival and at any kind of occasion shows.
